While that ratio of new cases seems high, I'll just toss it out there that the total population of the US is close to 10x that of Canada, so not as extreme as it seems. That said, Edmonton seems like the ideal location to do this considering the many variables. I still can't believe that Toronto has been tossed around by some as a logical location.

I completely agree but the other factor to consider is testing rates. A lot of the worst areas in the states are not testing at high per capita ratios. Alberta is near the top in that category.

Are Albertans really being tested more than Americans? I'd like to see that stat. The premiers of all provinces had to personally go to their largest airports to implement proper warnings and information about quarantining etc. weeks after the USA was already on lockdown. This seems to be a little "CBC" skewed.

Few similar questions so I'll add a bit more information here. In terms of tests per million the USA ranks 34th out of countries while Canada ranks 40th. Looking for the exact numbers but Alberta has been well above the curve in testing in Canada for over a month now.

In terms of cases per million the USA sits 12th while Canada sits 37th.

Looks like Oilers vs Blackhawks in a 1st round, best of 5 of a proposed 24 team playoff format.

Top 4 teams by % get a bye while seed 5 vs 12, 6 vs 11 etc.

That'd be a fun series!

Though, Edmonton would in no way be a lock to win it given their record against Chicago this year.

Toronto I think mainly due to a large number of rinks available and vacant hotels for players, management and stuff. Definitely not because of it's stellar COVID numbers.

Vegas will get it, you think the NHLPA will go along with quarantining long term in Edmonton, seriously? Resorts for each team and nice warm weather or in contrast dust and waste management smell blowing in from the North East and homeless crack heads a block away. Sure Oilers have a shiny new building but Edmonton is still Edmonton. Hotel MacDonald isnt that close.

Quarantined is quarantined. Doesn't matter if they can't hit bars, because they can't - anywhere. All that matters is capacity to host the games.

Quality of life is also a consideration. There's a reason Edmonton is selling itself as an option with a golf course attached.

Who would want to be in Las Vegas quarantined in 40 C weather where you have to take a bus to the practice rink in Henderson vs. an NHL sized rink they can walk to? Brand new hotels connected by a ped way and mid 20's C weather? Las Vegas isn't going to be what it was until this wuhan virus is figured out. Hopefully tomorrow we find out when hockey will start again. Not like it matters very much where the games are played as no fans allowed inside to watch the games anyway.
